I am an undergraduate student with a passion for learning. I started community college right after high school in 2007, however I was unable to complete my secondary education when life took me in another direction. I have worked in healthcare as a Certified Nursing Assistant for 15 years, and decided to go back and finish my degree in 2019. I was able to complete my Associates in Arts at Spokane Community College. When choosing to pursue my Bachelor’s in Biology, I took my time looking for a comprehensive online degree that would allow me the flexibility to work full-time as well as care for my children as a single mother. Arizona State University was the answer when I felt like I didn’t have many choices. I’m so glad I did! I have found a passion in research through ASU’s School of Life Sciences Undergraduate Research (SOLUR) program, which has given me the opportunity to work both remotely and in person as an online student within the lab, and providing me with skills like command line coding for bioinformatics, HPC cluster experience, cell passaging, microscopy, live cell imaging, immunocytochemistry, and scientific writing. I am currently researching the effect of sex hormone levels with regards to the onset of Hashimoto’s thyroiditis.
